Our biological sciences major options are designed to guide students through difficult subject matter to cultivate a deeper understanding of the complex structures and processes of the natural world. We offer undergraduate studies in specialized areas such as ecology and biodiversity, molecular biology and cognitive neuroscience in addition to general majors in biological sciences or integrated sciences. In our graduate programs, students conduct original research in areas of cell and molecular biology, or ecology and evolution. Research is built on a spirit of collaboration between leading faculty investigators, graduate students and undergraduates. Pods of researchers reach across disciplines to work with various departments on campus in an attempt to solve challenges in environmental sciences, sustainability, disease research and health disparities. DU is home to a renowned faculty of chemists, biologists and physicists working in the field of biophysics. Biophysics aims to shed light on biological processes by using cross-disciplinary techniques to analyze research outcomes. Undergraduate researchers also benefit from opportunities to work side-by-side with graduate researchers and faculty with the potential to positively impact medical scientific discovery.

I sometimes get headaches. A hectic one at that. Usually whichever is cheapest. I can date my headaches back to my part-time job at the beginning of my college career. I was a teller for a bank and, obviously, that equals daily headaches. I worked in a non-traditional bank. You know, those tiny little banks inside a grocery store. I was just forced to feed the same, over-the-top, incredibly corny, fake lines to or so customers a day.
Long story short: My job as a teller is when I began to take headache medicine daily.

The Biology major curriculum includes specific goals or learning outcomes that the student will accomplish in completing the Biology degree. The Portfolio Checklist describes the Biology learning outcomes and provides a mechanism for the student and the Academic Advisor to track and document successful completion of those learning outcomes.
Each semester, when you meet with your Academic Advisor for pre-registration advising, review your progress on the learning outcomes and update your plan for their successful completion by your anticipated graduation date. A passing grade in this zero-credit course is required to earn a degree in Biology.
A survey of biology departments in led to publication of a de facto sent to those who had not returned the survey by the designated due date. Non-biology courses required for an undergraduate biology degree are.
Each student must have a minimum of three level BIO credits excluding BIO , , , , , and to fulfill requirements of the major. This is the recommended option for most biology majors; however, consult with your Biology advisor before enrolling. All enrolled students have access to the AR. Note: Math courses can be pairs, i.
For the Bachelor of Science degree, in addition to all other College of Science and Health core requirements, students from non-exempted programs 1 must complete one of the following options. Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degrees must accomplish the following:. Grade point average requirements for some programs will be considerably higher than 2.
Re-entering students may be required to earn credits in excess of the needed for graduation in any curriculum in order to replace credits earned in courses in which the content has changed substantially in recent years. Each case will be judged on its own merit. The grade point average recorded at the time the degree is awarded will not be affected by future enrollment.
Biology majors who achieve excellence in both their studies and a research-based thesis may apply for Graduation with Distinction in Biology. Students may apply if they have a grade point average of 3. The award of Distinction requires the maintenance of this grade point average through graduation. Graduation with Distinction also requires the completion of an original research project, usually carried out as an independent study in biology e.
However, the Distinction project may be completed without a formal enrollment in independent study. The research project must have a primary disciplinary focus and research question in the biological sciences, even in the case of interdisciplinary research.
The Biology major emphasizes a broad training in biology by requiring an additional six upper-level biology elective courses, with at least one.
A s the school year gets underway and millions of matriculating students consider which major to choose , we got to wondering: Which degrees are most romantically compatible with one another? Are an anthropologist and an art historian intrinsically more likely to get together than, say, and English major and a physicist? Now, we have the data to answer that question. In almost every case, like attracted like. The award for most compatible majors goes to Performing Arts majors, who are 38 times more likely to marry one another, followed by Law majors 33 times more likely and the above-mentioned music majors.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Business majors—the second most popular major, after Education—are only 1. Generally speaking, degrees in related fields tended to be more compatible. Someone with a history degree is more compatible than average with an art historian, English major or someone with a degree in foreign languages. But there are some surprises. Computer scientists are more compatible with undergraduates who majored in law than they are with those who studied math or statistics, in defiance of the assumption that all math-and-science types stick together.
Likewise, physicists are particularly compatible with language majors which is great news for the field of natural language processing. In all likelihood, people with the same or similar degrees are more likely to find themselves in the same vicinity. To produce these results, we calculated which majors a person with a given degree was more or less likely than average to marry.
